Swim Team Rules

By participating in swim team, swimmers and their parents/guardians agree to abide by the following rules.

General:

• All swimmers must be registered and insured with WHALe. There can be no exceptions, not even for practice. The insurance fee is covered by your registration payment.
• All parents are required to volunteer. Please contact Rebecca Wyatt at rebeccawyatt@yahoo.com .
• Throughout the season, we will be communicating via e-mail (thearafamily@aol.com) and the swim team website (http://westonlakers08.blogspot.com). Once the information has been sent, it will be your responsibility to keep yourself informed.
• Swimmers are required to attend all swim meets. If you will not be able to attend a meet, please inform the coaches as soon as possible.
• Swimmers must be dropped off at their designated times. Swimmers may arrive 10 minutes early, but must be picked up promptly at the end of their practice.
• The baby pool is closed to all swim team members during practice. Non-swimmers are not covered by WHALe league insurance policy; therefore, they will not be permitted in either of the pools at any time.
• All parking is to be done in the parking lot. The straight away and loop may be used for pick-ups and drop-offs only. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in this area. Remember the pool area is busy all summer. Drive slowly and watch out for our children.
• Parents are welcome to observe but must remain in designated area and stay off the deck.
• Any disrespect to our coaches is reason enough for dismissal.

Swimmer Conduct:

• No dunking or splashing
• No misuse of equipment
• No talking or going under water while your coach is giving instruction.
• No name calling or use of unacceptable language.
• Remember, we are a team. Good sportsmanship is our bond as well as our goal.

Practice Structure:

Swimmers will be grouped according to age and/or ability. Practices will be organized by, but not limited to, the following schedule:

• Warm up (10 minutes)
• Pre-set (10 minutes) - This will be a continuation of the warm up and will focus on short distances, sprints and board work to prepare swimmers for the main set.
• Main-set (30 minutes) - This section will make up the bulk of the swimming and will consist of sets to increase endurance, improve stroke technique and proper turns. The main set will be followed by a cool down.
• Starts and Dives (10 minutes) - Instruction on proper dives and relay exchanges.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to e-mail the coach. Please do not approach the coaches during practice as their primary responsibility is to act as lifeguards and ensure the safety of your children.

Coaches have final decision as to whether the child meets requirements for participation.
